Introduction

In the year 1961 Rev Fr George Thachenkary, the then Parish Priest of St Dominic’s Church, Kanjirapally made a proposal to his parishioners at the parish assembly to establish an English Medium School. The community unanimously agreed to it and they made a request to the Jesuits , known as the ‘Schoolmen of Europe’ to start a school in Kanjirapally. The Jesuits took up the challenge and started the school as the Sacerdotal Silver Jubilee Memorial of Mar Mathew Kavukatt, then Archbishop of Changanacherry. It was named AKJM (Archbishop Kavukattu Jubilee Memorial) High School.

At its inception, it was located on the St Dominic’s Parish campus. In 1963 it was shifted to the present site in a 10 acre plot, by the side of the KK Road (NH 220). Fr Antony Manjil  SJ, was the first Headmaster and Rev Fr George Thachenkary, the first Manager. From the beginning the school has been giving  preference to the Catholic boys of Kanjirapally area. In a decade’s time a Boarding House was opened mainly to cater to the boys from Kuttanadu and High range areas. As a result of the spread of primary and secondary education in Kerala and the preferential option the Jesuits made for the poor and for the ordinary families of the locality, the Boarding House was closed down in 1995. AKJM Junior School was established in the same year. In 2002  AKJM Higher Secondary School was established. It has two batches in Science with Maths and Biology and the other in commerce with computer application. In the same year the school went co- educational. In 2015 the  LP section also got recognition .

This is a Catholic Minority School. Though the primary aim of this institution is the education of Catholic students of the neighbourhood, it also admits non catholic students who wish to abide by and profit from the tradition and discipline of the school.
